I ran into a funny procedural quirk today: USCIS permanently accepts reproduced (scanned) signatures on many forms now (policy reaffirmed July 2022), but you’re still expected to retain the original wet‑signed page in case they ask for it. Has anyone seen an RFE in 2024 over not being able to produce the wet ink original, and if so, how did you document chain of custody? Saw one 2024 RFE for the original; logged signer-to-mailroom chain and UPS. Kept ‘wet ink original’ on-site; confirm with counsel.
We tag the wet ink original with a control ID that’s printed on the reproduced page, log signer > intake > file room handoffs, and store it in a sealed folder tied to the case record plus UPS tracking. Small caveat: if the original’s gone, we’ve seen an officer accept a detailed chain-of-custody affidavit once, but I’d loop in counsel before trying that.
