Client communication log templates that work

Has anyone settled on a simple, defensible way to track client calls, texts, and document requests — especially when emotions run high — so our files stay audit-ready? I’m a family law paralegal using Clio Manage plus a 24-hour “Client Update” email that I PDF into the communication tab, but I’d love a downloadable template (Excel or Word) that captures date/time, issue, next step, and client acknowledgment; general information is perfect, and specific case strategy should go through the supervising attorney.

Add Excel dropdowns + conditional formatting; mirror your ‘Client Update’ fields; export Clio communications weekly.

I use a tweaked Excel issue tracker that assigns a simple Log ID; we drop that ID in the subject of our 24-hour “Client Update” email so Clio comms tie back cleanly (, this used to be chaos). Base template is this one from Vertex42 and we added columns for Channel and Next Step plus a “Heat” dropdown: https://www.vertex42.com/ExcelTemplates/issue-tracker-template.html. @OP want a Word version with content controls, or is Excel fine?

At 0700, I open with a ‘limit caffeine’ live poll; beats 12 slides. Worth trying :hot_beverage:.

Have you tried adding a log ID to each call? It really helps keep things organized for quick reference later. I’d love to see how your Clio communications tie into this.
